2012 Los Angeles Dodger Prospects
***stats and write up are taking from numerous prospect sites***
1. Wilmer Flores SS (MYM) (HiA)
Flores makes consistent hard contact, thanks to his quick bat and ability to put the barrel on the ball. Though he launched just three homers in 2009, heÕs projected to hit for power to all fields as he matures. Even before signing, he displayed opposite-field power potential. He has a plus arm and soft hands at shortstop. He has a thick lower half and is expected to move to third base or an outfield corner as he fills out. He needs to get stronger and develop more patience at the plate to maximize his offensive potential.
2011 stats: .269 9hr 81rbi 52r 2 stl
2. Tyler Thornburg SP (MIL)
2011 stats: 10-6 2.81era 136.2ip 160k
3. Ethan Martin SP (AA)
Martin's fastball sits at 93-95 mph and occasionally touches 97. He has good movement on the pitch, and he can make it sink or cut. His big-breaking curveball is a potential plus second pitch. He's very athletic and does a good job of repeating his delivery. Similar to Withrow: great fastball/curveball combo, has dominance potential but needs to sharpen control.
2011 stat: 9-7 5.42era 95.1ip 104k
4. Alex Liddi 3b (SEA) (AAA-majors)
2011 stats: .259avg 30hr 104rbi 121r 5sb
5. Matt Lipka SS (ATL) (LoA)
2011 stats: .247avg 1hr 37rbi 78r 29sb
6. Taylor Lindsey 2b (LAA) (R)
2011 stats: .362avg 9hr 46rbi 64r 10sb
7. Aaron Miller SP (hiA)
Miller routinely pitches at 91-95 mph, and he could pick up velocity now that he's a full-time pitcher. His hard, 82-83 mph slider is tough on lefthanders. He's an outstanding athlete who fields his position well and has a good pickoff move despite his lack of experience. Command was an issue in college, but he has cleaned up his mechanics and started to throw strikes more consistently. Ceiling isn't quite as high as Martin and Withrow, but I like his combination of athleticism, stuff, and better-than-anticipated pitchability.
2011 stats: 3-2 3.95era 34ip 30k
8. Allen Webster SP (AA)
Webster's fastball sits in the low 90s and often touches 94-95 mph. It looks even quicker because he throws it so effortlessly after putting in extensive work on his delivery during extended spring training. His hard three-quarters breaking ball is a plus pitch at times, and he has fairly good command of his changeup. Another high-ceiling young arm, greatly improved his command in 2009.
2011 stats: 11-5 3.64era 145ip 135k
9. Yorman Rodriguez OF (CIN) (LoA)
Rodriguez is the system's best athlete. His arm and speed are plus tools, and he has excellent range and instincts in center field. He has the bat speed and frame to eventually hit for power. Though he's fast, his big swing slows him down coming out of the batter's box, so he doesn't get many infield hits. He must learn how to read pitchers to become a better basestealer. He needs to get a lot stronger, and there's room for another 50 pounds on his frame.
2011 Stats: .254avg 7hr 40rbi 38r 20stl
10. Yoan Alcantara OF (SDP) (R)
2011 stats: .348avg 7hr 46rbi 50r 8sb
11. Alex Torres SP (TB) (AAA-majors)
2011 stats: 9-7 3.08 146ip 156k
12. Garrett Gould SP (LoA)
Hard-throwing athletic high school pitcher could follow in the footsteps of Withrow and Martin.
2011 stats: 11-6 2.40era 123ip 104k
13. Kyle Heckathorn SP (MIL) (hiA-AA)
His raw stuff is outstanding and rivaled anyone's in the 2009 draft. His fastball sits at 91-94 mph and peaks at 98. His slider also can be devastating, registering in the high 80s. Even with his live arm and big frame, Heckathorn doesn't have any problems throwing strikes.
2011 stats: 5-10 5.90era 116ip 89k
14. Aaron Sanchez SP (TOR) (R)
2011 stats: 3-3 5.10era 54ip 56k
15. Max Stassi C (OAK) (HiA)
2011 stats: .231avg 2hr 19rbi 22r 1sb
16. Cody Johnson OF (NYY) (HiA-AA)
2011 stats: .256avg 21hr 67rbi 64r 1sb
17. Scott Elbert SP (AAA-majors)
Elbert has regained the stuff he had before he had scar tissue removed from his labrum. His fastball sits at 92-94 mph and reaches 95. He complements it with a late-breaking, mid-80s slider that lefthanders find unhittable. His changeup keeps righthanders at bay.
2011 stats: 2-1 3.22era 46ip 47k
18. Nick Longmire OF STL (LoA)
