Week Four Power rankings
1) Milwaukee Brewers - This team has a lot of balance which is critical to success. They have an offensive powerhouse, a solid bench, some surefire arms in the rotation and a stacked bullpen.
2) Atlanta Braves - The offense is absolutely amazing and could dominate in a lot of twelve-team leagues. The rotation contains a few superstars but lacks the depth. If he can find the guys to finalize his rotation, the Braves will be number one without a doubt.
3) Colorado Rockies - With the recent acquisition of Justin Verlander to the rotation, the Rockies have an awesome five man rotation. The only concern is the offense but if Zimmerman rebounds from injury, they will be fine.
4) San Francisco Giants - The team isn't stacked with superstars but they don't lack the balance. The rotation may be the best there is and the offense has a lot of promise and potential. Also, the power of Wilson in the late innings can not be ignored.
5) New York Mets - The Mets could be ranked higher but it's really a matter of personal preference. I think the Mets have upgraded the offense significantly but the rotation has taken a hit and the bullpen wasn't stellar to begin with. If Greinke rebounds, they will be right in the competition.
6) Boston Red Sox - As Harris mentioned in his original rankings, the offseason wasn't as great as the real one, but it was still good. The Red Sox now have two highly capable catchers and an overall balanced team. I expect this team to run away with the AL pennant.
7) Florida Marlins - The offense is stacked 1-8 with the likes of CarGo, Uggla, and Bautista. The pitching is not quite as amazing. If the Marlins acquire an arm, they are a top five team, easy.
8) Los Angeles Dodgers - The team could really surprise some people. The offense is really solid, the bullpen is great, and they have the minor league pieces to trade away to add on to the weaker rotation later on.
9) New York Yankees - the rotation is dominant but the rest isn't much to right home about. The lineup may get by but the bullpen sucks for a lack of better words. Still the second best team in the AL.
10) Seattle Mariners - Love the 1-2-3 punch with Felix, Haren and Hellickson and the offense is solid. This team will be hard to beat in the coming weeks.
11) Washington Nationals - The offense is phenomenal but I question how much longer the rotation can keep it up. It really is a bunch of four and five starters bunched together.
12) Cincinatti Reds - The team is really talented an a new owner will do them well. Hopefully we have someone in here by this week.
13) Detroit Tigers - I am not sure that they improved this offseason but things are looking good for the Tigers. Overall, the team should stay consistent throughout the year.
14) Tampa Bay Rays - Rebuilding or not, this team has a solid core and can definitely compete this year and beyond, I like where eps is taking this team.
15) Chicago White Sox - Bias aside, the team is still well-rounded and should have future success. I refuse to believe that the first three weeks are the real White Sox.
16) Chicago Cubs - Another well-rounded team but I am not a fan of the Castro trade. Nonetheless, Adam Dunn should post his usual 30/100 numbers and the Cubs will be fine.
17) San Diego Padres - the team lacks overall balance but they do have Pujols, Holliday, and Carpenter as well as a hot start out of Kendrick. This team could surprise people.
18) Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim - the team will clearly be better when Utley and Morales return, but the offense as a whole isn't spectacular at the moment and Santana isn't an ideal ace.
19) Houston Astros - I like where Rayne is taking this team but he could use some arms in the barren rotation.
20) Toronto Blue Jays - Nothing against Mac and you can go ahead and bash me, but I don't see much in this team. The loss of Hamilton stings and the middle infield is very weak. The pitching is pretty solid though. Again, a matter of personal preference.
21) Minnesota Twins - The team is great in some areas and weak in others. If Granderson keeps this up he could be a huge boost and hopefully Dominguez is called up soon to help at CI.
22) Philadelphia Phillies - The team was crushed by Scott but the team still has a few bright spots and could be turned around with just a few moves.
23) Arizona Diamondbacks - the rotation really only has four arms, two of those being effective options but the offense is stellar and the team has potential as a whole.
24) St Louis Cardinals - Obviously this team is building for future years with the stacked national league but the current team isn't all that bad. Gonzalez is a solid piece to build around for the future.
25) Oakland Athletics - the loss of Mauer to leg weakness (definitely not a good sign) brought the A's ranking way down in my book. The rotation is still led by Anderson and the bullpen is solid, plus they have some nice young players.
26) Pittsburgh Pirates - The Pirates have surprised us as one of the better teams so far. I'm not going to hand them a playoff slot but they could be a dark horse contender.
27) Kansas City Royals - The all free agent team is off to a good start. Obviously the emphasis is on the young talent waiting in the wings but the Royals could be quite a story if they can make the playoffs with this team.
28) Baltimore Orioles - the team owns ARod and that's about it. The focus is on the future and it looks bright in some cases.
29) Texas Rangers - they barely beat out the Indians for the second to last spot. At least they have a few pieces who could contribute at the MLB level.
30) Cleveland Indians - five MLB pieces. See you next year.
