Nats trade
SP: Philip Humber 300k (0/5 PP) Mi: Jose Iglesias300k (0/5 PP) (Baseball America Red Sox #1 prospect) RP: Alfredo Aceves $400k (PP 0/5) SP: Daisuke Matsuzaka 11-14: 2.2M
to the Padres
For
SP - Chris Carpenter $15,000,000 (2011) $15,000,000 (2012) - Option Excercised
I am doing this trade so I can get a starter that has a solid ERA. Carpenter hasnt had the best season so far with a 4-7 record but I will still take a chance on him. Padres are looking to cut cap. They get a good prospect. Humber is protected and has been very good in the rotation for the White Sox. Aceves can pitch in relief or start. and Rice-K is signed cheap for the next few years so worth stashing on the bench.

With the Padres hopes for glory in the season 2011 gone, we are seriously rebuilding.
Unfortunately that means that 36 YO's are not part of the future plans.
For Carpenter we pick-up youngsters both proven and unproven.
The rebuild is on.
Padres accept.
